“Morning Prayer!”(Mk.1:35-39).
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went to a solitary place, where he prayed…”
We do not know the content of that Jesus’ prayer in that early morning. All we know is that learning from his example it is expedient for us to find time to pray in the early morning and at solitary places. However, it is probable that he was praying for strength and will power to break new grounds in his mission. I think so because it is said that his disciples came looking for him. When they found him they exclaimed, “Everyone is looking for you!”
Jesus’ response to them was, “Let us go somewhere else – to the nearby villages – so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”
Yes, my people say you do not remain at a funeral because you have much tears. There’s a time to move on to another place. All peoples everywhere have the right to hear the good news too. What is important is that whatever the task ahead, arm yourself with prayer.
Reflecting on this, two songs come to my consciousness: “Did you stop to pray this morning
As you started on your way
Did you ask the Lord to guide you
As you started onto your way
Did you think to pray this morning
Did you kneel just one moment to say
Give me comfort for my soul
On this old wicked road
Did you just remember to pray
Jesus is coming again.”
“Ere you left your room this morning,
Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?
Refrain:
Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So when life seems dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray.”
Yes my friend, when you get up each morning, don’t forget to pray. And if you have the possibility, look for a solitary place to pray so as to avoid distractions.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit prompt me daily to start my day with prayer. Amen!
Welcome to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
