“No More Bread Of Adversity; No More Tears Of Affliction!”(Is.30:18-22).
“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’ Then you will desecrate your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, ‘Away with you!'”
The bread of adversity and the water of affliction that we receive from the Lord is simply “corrective punishment.” It doesn’t matter how long we have been punished, the compassion of the LORD is unquantifiable!
The comforting words of assurance to Israel of old is also for us. It doesn’t matter what we have passed through, we have this assurance:“Blessed are all who wait for” The LORD! “You will weep no more.” As soon as the LORD hears your cry for help, he will answer you!
The Lord Jesus Christ is the One through whom the LORD has shown his compassion and love. Before his Ascension into heaven, he promised to be with us through the Holy Spirit who is also our Counselor and Comforter. When our footsteps falter in our faith journey, the silent voice of the Holy Spirit, the invisible guide will say, “This is the way; walk in it.”
However, rid yourself of the idols that you have surrounded yourself with! Rid yourself of the things that you idolise and fix your eyes on Christ the Savior.
Sunday prayer: LORD, God of justice and compassion, thank you for taking away from us the bread of adversity and the water of affliction through the Lord Jesus Christ and the continuous presence of the Holy Spirit to guide us. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
