“Pray For Messengers Of The Gospel!”(Rom.10:9-17).
Yesterday, we mentioned that those who were engaged in commercial activities within the temple area were kind of depriving the Gentiles of their right to worship and pray to the LORD.
Jesus revolutionised Judaism by freeing Yahweh from Jewish particularism, thus universalising Yahweh.
Some early Jewish Christian converts did not think that Christ is without borders.
Writing to the Romans, Paul reminds that an all-inclusive Yahweh was not a new teaching. When prophet Joel said, “And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved” (2:32), he was referring to both Jews and Gentiles.
We all have equal rights to belong to the kingdom of heaven where “Jesus is Lord.”
It is by the Holy Spirit that any of us can say, “Jesus is Lord!”(I Cor.12:3).
“Jesus is Lord” is probably the first Christian confession of faith. Our faith rests on the above confession. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”
As it is, this confession is possible only when the gospel is brought to us. For this reason, we remain thankful to the missionaries who defied all odds to bring the gospel to us. It is true that this gospel may have been mishandled by some, but that was not the reason why they came. Those who think that the gospel was used to enhance the slave trade have a right to their opinion. But it was this same gospel that was used to end the slave trade, to end apartheid in South Africa and is being used in fighting racism and marginalisation.
We need messengers to bring the good news to us.
True as it is that “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.., how, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Not everyone will accept the message of faith, but there must be people to bring this message to us, because, “faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”
Dear friend, think of any messengers of the gospel you know, mention their names, and pray for them because the feet of those who bring the good news are beautiful!
Weekend prayer: Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, for the lives of those who have impacted our lives through your gospel. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
