“Return To The Lord; He Still Loves You Freely!”
When God called prophet Hosea, God asked him to dramatize his call by getting married to a prostitute. This was to demonstrate the degree of idolatory to which Israel had descended into. God was so displeased with the people such that he asked Hosea to name a son “‘Lo-Ammi,’ for you are not my people, and I will not be your God”(see Ho.1:1-9).
Still God is such a compassionate God who does not delight is the death of any unrepentant person. In the last chapter of the book the Lord calls out, “O Israel, return to the Lord your God…Say to him, ‘take away all iniquity, receive us graciously, for we will offer the sacrifices of our lips… Nor will we say anymore to the work of our hands, ‘you are our gods.’ For in you the fatherless finds mercy” He goes further to declare, “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, for my anger has turned away…”(14:1-4).
Oh yes; he has demonstrated this free love through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.
Let us take away Israel and put in its place “Cameroon,” then the message is for Cameroon, just as it is for any country where there has been loss of collective sanity!
As individuals you and I are units that constitute the whole. As such we cannot collectively make an about turn to the Lord unless you and I have done so as individuals! Be the pebble that is dropped in the stream which causes the wide expanse of rippling effect! We are not going to transform the world if we do not begin from our backyards.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, purify me and endow me with spiritual gifts to ignore the gods of my hand and return to the Lord. Amen!
