“Sent By God To Save Lives!”(Gen.45:1-15).
Joseph was hated by his brothers because he was the favourite of their father. Besides, his kind of dreams, which he recounted to them, showed that his brothers would eventually bow to him as if he were a king.
Their hatred led them to attempt to murder him, but since he was favoured by God, they spared his life.
They sold him into slavery in Egypt.
In Egypt, he was framed up by his master’s wife. He was thrown into jail, but prison became the gateway to his rise to fame and prominence.
Fast forward, Joseph became the second-in-command in Egypt. Fate led his brothers to pay allegiance to him in fulfilment of the dream for which they had hated him.
God’s ways are not our ways. Not at all!
Today’s text is the story of how Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers.
The revelation is very revealing of Joseph’s character. He told his brothers: “…I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold to Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not get angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you…So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and rules of all Egypt…”
With many other words, Joseph reconciled with his brothers with kisses and tears. He promised them a future in Egypt where they were to live in Goshen and be near him.
Joseph is a prototype of Jesus. Sent by God to save lives; hated by the very people he was meant to save. Yet he showed them love!
In every bad situation, look deeper beyond the pain and hurt, and you will see the hand of God grooming you for something greater.
Take note also that it is not about you. It is about God using you to reach out to all his people.
Do not hold any grudge against your “supposed” enemies.
By the way, do not forget that those who sold Joseph into slavery were his own brothers from the same father! “Enemies in the house and from the house!”
Like we said, Joseph was a prototype of Christ as he had to pass through prison to rise to prominence in order to save lives in the same way that Jesus had to pass through death to become the Christ in order to save humanity.
Both of them had big hearts that carried the big load of forgiveness, which ordinary hearts find difficult to carry.
Dear friend, learn to forgive unconditionally because God uses even your enemies to lift you up for his purpose!
Prayer of the day and week: Heavenly Father, open our eyes of faith to see that all things work for good to those you have called according to your purpose. Amen!
Welcome to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week! Peace be with you!
