“The Word Of God: Your First And Last Daily Bread!”(Dt.8:2-3).
One of the best-selling books of Nikos Kazantzakis is “The Last Temptation (of Christ.)” It is a historical novel that “depicts the life of Jesus and his struggles with various forms of temptation, including fear, doubt, depression, reluctance, and lust.”
But what was the first temptation?” When Jesus was baptised, the Spirit led him into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After forty days of fasting, Jesus was hungry. Then came his first ever temptation as “the tempter came to him and said, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.’ Jesus answered, ‘It is written: ‘Man does live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”‘”(Mt.4:1-4).
Jesus’ answer is a direct quote from part of the last verse of today’s text.
The text in full states: “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
The desert experience is common to us all – with some exceptions, though. Our desert experiences are God’s way of humbling us, testing us in order to know what is in our heart, and whether or not we will keep his commands.
One thing is certain: In every desert experience, God is always there to provide a way out and a way forward.
How you come out of the desert experience depends on how much you rely on the word of God than on the strength of your arm.
The majority of people spend more time on the word of God when they want something from him. And when they have received what they wanted, they tend to now spend less time on God’s word.
My friend, let us always find time to feed on the Word of God. The Word of God is food for the soul(Jn.4:32).
The Lord Jesus Christ is the living bread of life that comes from heaven. Depend on the Lord Jesus Christ, and your hunger and thirst will dissipate. We are not advocating a slothful life. Rather, we are saying that put God first in your genuine endeavours, and he will bless the works of your hands.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit, help me to rely on the Word of God as my daily guide. Amen!
Welcome to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week!
Peace be with you!
