“Truth Never Kills; Learn To Share With Others!”
To say “experience is the best teacher” is an affirmation that the things of the past serve as yardstick for the present and for future advantage. It may be the experiences of others which we appropriate for ourselves. I use the hermeneutics of experience as best teacher to intepret the story of Ananias and his wife Sapphira. This couple was among the early believers who “were one in heart. No-one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.” From each according to his means and to each according to his needs.
“Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.” He decided to keep some of the money to himself and to the full knowledge of his wife.
Ananias’ action was the work of Satan who caused him to lie to the Holy Spirit. This caused his death and that of his wife.
We grief the Holy Spirit when we make a vow and/or pledge to God and fail to fulfil it. This is evident in the words of Peter to Ananias, “…Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God…”(Acts 5:1-11).
Today we have taken great delight in telling a lot of lies thinking that we are deceiving men. By this we think we can easily go free. Unfortunately for us by lieing to men, we lie to God! We must watch out for nemesis! Nemesis never misses its target! What belongs to all must be shared by all!
My friend, make sure that each pledge you make is fulfilled!
God cannot be mocked and truth remains truth! Let the story of Ananias and Sapphira be a lesson for you and I so that we should not lie to the Holy Spirit. We can rejoice that we have deceived men, but we cannot deceive God!
Prayer: Holy Spirit lead me away from deceit and let me be truthful before man and God. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
