“Use Any Gift From God For His Service!”
Some years ago in a discussion with the Very Rev. Dr. Festus Asana the name of Prof. Kwame Bediako came up. The Very Rev said, “I met him once. He is a blessing to Africa.” Bediako is now of blessed memory, but his legacy lives on.
In one of his lectures he told us that “the quest for knowledge is the search for truth, which when found must submit itself at the feet of God; if it must be of benefit to humanity.”
Justin Matyr a Greek philosopher converted to Christianity when Jesus Christ was explained to him. Justin said, “I have found the true philosophy.”
Jesus said “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” He confirmed this to refer to himself when he declared, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”(Jn. 14:6).
Knowledge and wisdom are God-given for necessary human development, but it should not lead to self-conceit! Among the many questions to Job, God asked, “Who has put wisdom in the inward parts or given understanding to the mind?”
If it is from God, then we cannot use that same wisdom and understanding to put God in the wrong or condemn him so as to be right (Cf. Job 40:8)! “All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above…!”
My friend, work hard to acquire wisdom and knowledge; then put it at the service of God through service to humanity. Remember that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom!”
Prayer: Lord equip me with wisdom and understanding and enable me to put it to your service by serving humanity. Amen!
