“Walk Straight In The Sight Of The Lord And He Will Prolong Your Days!”
King Hezekiah was told by prophet Isaiah to keep his house in order for he was about to die. When the king heard this, he prayed to the Lord, “Remember, O Lord, how I walked before you faithfully and with whole hearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.”(Is.38:1-8).
We may say it was a claim to self-righteousness. The truth however is that like the lizard who fell off from a very high height, if you do a good deed and it is not aplauded, you can nod and claim that you deserve it. Sometimes we suffer from underated self-image which even help to distort our relationship with God.
Hezekiah deserved such a prayer. Hezekiah became king when he was twenty-five years old and reigned for twenty-nine years. It is not how old you live or how long you reign that makes you a good ruler. We have octogenarians who have destroyed their countires economically, socially and politically because of their long reigns of corruption and lack of direction!
It is said of Hezekiah that he “trusted the Lord…there was no-one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. He held fast to the Lord and did not cease to follow him; he kept the commands the Lord had given him; he was successful in whatever he undertook…”(II Kgs.18:1-7).
We can therefore not doubt that his prayer was not self-glorifying and that is why God added fifteen years to his life.
My friend, walk straight in the eyes of the Lord and when you raise your voice in prayer to him in sincerity and truth he will turn your story around!
Prayer: Lord in your mercy hear my prayer and respond to me according to how I have walked in your sight. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
