“When Death Will Die!”(Rev.20:11-15)[14/12/2024].
John Donne, the great poet and clergyman, wrote a sonnet under the captivating challenging title, “Death Be Not Proud “
“Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me…
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.”
Death is only as proud as we allow him to be. Death is going to die. On judgment day, the last verdict will be on Death, “then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.”
My friend, will you be allowed to see the agony on death’s face as he meets Death?
The answer depends on whether your name was found written in the book of life; because “if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” to die there with Death.
Judgment day awaits everybody, ‘great and small’ alike. Rank, title, position, social status, etc. won’t be of essence. Each person will be “judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books…”
As long as it is called, ‘today,’ let us do the things that merit our names to be written in the book of life.
Weekend prayer: Dear LORD, erase my past, embrace my present deeds, and record my name in the book of life. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
